Jonesboro donation drive brings in supplies for tornado ravaged Joplin

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro residents spent Wednesday helping their neighbors to the north.

A fund drive took place at the Wal Mart on Highland Drive in Jonesboro for Joplin residents. Representatives from multiple organizations joined forces to raise money and supplies for the tornado victims.

Suzy Smith is a disaster relief volunteer and is all too familiar with the destruction Mother Nature can leave behind.

Smith said the comments from people donating have all been positive.

"'I'm so glad you're doing this,' 'I was going to take a load up there, but I didn't know when,' 'I didn't know where to take it, who to talk to,' well, we do," Smith told Region 8 News.

Reba Haynes was at the site dropping off donations and said it was just the right thing to do.

"I thin it's our responsibility to help our fellow man, and when you have been blessed, you bless others," Haynes said.

The fund drive took place until 7p.m. Wednesday night. All of the items donated will be taken to Joplin Saturday, June 4th.
