JONESBORO, AR -- A Nettleton High School graduate who has been battling in Iraq is back on American soil, and will soon be visiting with family members in Arkansas.
Craig Doty entered boot camp in June of 2002 after enrolling in the Marine Corp as a junior in high school. He left for Kuwait in January of 2003, and as a member of the 1st Division, he was one of the first waves of troops to make it to Baghdad.
"I was proud to have him going over there, but, you know, it's kind of shaky over there; didn't really know what to expect when they first went," said his dad, Trent Doty.
The elder Doty was in Arizona on business when the war began. His son would call when he could. "His mother lives in Dallas, so he did a good job of spreading his time out, you know, who he would call. He didn't get but about, you know, five minutes," added Doty.
The Doty was told in September that they would soon be able to talk with Craig in person. He was with Company A, the first group to fly home. Craig Doty has been in 29 Palms, California since October 2nd.
His dad explained, "Can't wait. Can't wait. The entire family; everybody's gonna be out there. My church is gonna be out there. I mean, we're just gonna really welcome him home. Really glad to see him. Glad to see all of them come home, but, you know, really proud of him."
