Harding University junior Rhiannon Roper earned Capital One Women's Track and Field Academic All-District VI honors Thursday.
A native of Fortuna, Calif., Roper earned Indoor Track and Field All-South Region honors in both the shot put and weight throw. She ranked third in the region in the weight throw (37 feet, 3 inches) and fifth in the shot put (36-02.25).
Roper also ranked in the top 20 in the South Region in three outdoor events – shot put (12th, 36-07.50), discus (12th, 113-6), and hammer throw (18th, 100-9).
She set new Harding records in the indoor shot put, indoor weight throw, and the outdoor hammer throw during the 2011 season.
Roper is an early childhood major with a 3.94 grade point average.
The Capital One Academic All-District teams are voted on by the district's sports information directors. District VI includes NCAA II, NCAA III, and NAIA schools in Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Mississippi.
Roper was one of 10 student-athletes that will move on the Academic All-America ballot.
