BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham-Southern promoted Chris
Graves to men's basketball coach a day after Mitch Cole resigned.
Graves spent the past three seasons as an assistant under Cole,
who left Thursday to take an assistant coaching position in the Big
Cole declined to say which school until his contract was final.
Graves helped Division III Birmingham-Southern rebuild after it
didn't field a team in the 2006-07 season. The Panthers won the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title and the NCAA
Provisional Tournament last season.
Graves spent five seasons as a high school head coach. Before
that he worked for five years in the college ranks at his alma
mater, John Brown University, the University of Arkansas, and
Tennessee State University.
