JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Blake Sanders of Jonesboro trumped the competition and has been named the 2011 King of Bridge.
The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) awards the honor each year to a graduating high school senior who plays and promotes the game of bridge.
"I was really shocked to receive the honor," Sanders said.
18-year-old Sanders has been playing competitively for more than a year. While in school, he played weekly at his local bridge club and tried to play a tournament each month. During the summer, he plans to shoot for a tournament a week.
"You have to give yourself the chance to really learn and be competitive," Sanders said.
In addition to the award, Sanders also received a $1,000 scholarship from the ACBL Educational Foundation.
