JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO (KAIT & AP) - A former Region 8 sheriff will face state drug charges in June.

Former Carter County Sheriff Tommy Adams is due back in court on June 17.

He is charged with two felonies of distribution of a controlled substance for meth and cocaine. He's also charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute.

Adams pleaded guilty in April to federal charges for stealing firearms that had been seized as evidence, then selling some of them. Adams' former deputy, Steffanie Kearbey, pleaded guilty to the same federal charges.

Adams is serving a ten-year sentence on those federal charges.

Adams was arrested in April 2011, and resigned days later.

Region 8 News will continue to track this case and bring you any new details as soon as they become available.
