BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – After reviewing the case of a man using deadly force to protect his home, the Baxter County Sheriff's Office says 14th Judicial District Prosecutor Ron Kincade has ruled that the homeowner was justified in the shooting.

According to the Baxter County Sheriff's Department, around 4:30 Monday morning, Jeremy and Kristi Ealey called 9-1-1 saying someone was trying to break into their home through their 4-year-olds window.

Police say during the call, the suspect Larry Copas, then threw a concrete block through the back door. According to police that's when Jeremy Ealey fired several shots at the back door, hitting Copas once in the head and once in the lower abdomen.

Copas was sitting on the back porch covered in blood when police arrived, he was taken to St. John's in Springfield, Missouri in critical condition. The homeowners were not injured.

Police say they shooting is still under investigation, and Prosecutor Kincade says he is considering charges against the wounded suspect.
