FAYETTEVILLE, AR (NWAOnline.com) - Arkansas first baseman Dominic Ficociello and right-handed pitcher Barrett Astin have been named Freshman All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
It is the second freshman All-America team both players have landed on since the 2010 season ended with a 13-4 loss at Arizona State. Ficociello was named a Louisville Slugger first-team freshman All-American last week, while Astin was a second-team selection.
Astin earned NCBWA all-freshman honors after a solid season out of the bullpen. He appeared in a team-high 27 games, going 5-2 with three saves and a 2.72 earned run average.
Ficociello led Arkansas at the plate as a freshman, batting .335 with four home runs and a team-high 50 RBIs. Ficociello also tied the school's freshman hits record (75) and led the Razorbacks in doubles (15) and multi-hit games (20).
