LITTLE ROCK (ArkansasSports360.com) - Drew Smyly, the Little Rock Central product and former Arkansas Razorback pitcher, returned from the disabled list in a big way over the past two weeks, and he was named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week on Monday for his efforts last week, including hurling seven innings of no-hit ball.
Smyly, who led Arkansas to the NCAA Super Regional round last year before being drafted in the second round of the June MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers organization, struck out seven and walked three in his third and longest stint since coming off the DL for Lakeland (Fla.). Smyly has an earned run average of 3.03 for the year, with 29 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings.
He missed a month of action on the DL.
Smyly is a product of Little Rock's Junior Deputy Baseball organization, as is Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Josh Sullivan, currently with the Tulsa Drillers in the Texas League.
