NEWPORT, AR - Police in Newport have arrested a 39-year-old Jackson County man in connection with the Monday night stabbing death of his stepfather.

According to a police report, officers received a 911 call at approximately 10:50 p.m. in which the caller hung up.  When the dispatch operator called the residence back, a woman answered the phone saying "Call the police," and the phone was immediately disconnected.  When officers arrived at 1020 Holden Avenue, they found a 66-year-old man identified as Charles West lying unconscious in the kitchen area with multiple stab wounds.  The victim's wife, Peggy West, advised the officer that her son, Mike Myers, had killed her husband.  Myers was still in the residence at the time and taken into custody by officers.

West was taken to Harris Hospital in Newport, where he died of his wounds in the emergency room.  His body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.

Police believe the incident stemmed from an argument that occured earlier in the day in which Myers was asked to move from the residence.

Charges have not yet been filed against Myers, but the incident is being investigated as a domestic homicide.
