Crash kills teen on Highway 60


A teenager was killed and eight others injured in a crash in Shannon County in southern Missouri just west of Carter County.

The crash happened in Winona, which is about 20 miles west of Van Buren, shortly after 6:30 Wednesday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway patrol, Robert Koehler, 16 of Winona, was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram truck when he attempted to pull onto Highway 60. But he pulled into the path of a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer with seven people inside.

After Koehler's truck was hit, it flipped coming to rest on its top. A passenger in the truck, Ben Kapp, 16 of Winona, was ejected from the truck and killed. According to the crash report neither Kapp or Koehler were wearing seat belts.

A helicopter flew Koehler to a Springfield hospital with serious injuries.

All seven of the people in the other SUV received minor injuries. They were all taken by ambulance to a Mountain View hospital.

Most of the people in the SUV that was hit were also children. There ages were 2, 12, 12, 13, 14, 32 and 33.  There were all from Willow Springs.
