JONESBORO, AR - Approximately 15 homes in east Jonesboro were temporarily evacuated this morning when a Centerpoint Energy-Arkla gas line ruptured and began leaking into nearby sewers.

An employee of the utility detected the problem near the intersection of East Nettleton Avenue and Nelms Street around 10:45 a.m. and immediately notified local authorities.  Members of the Jonesboro Fire Department soon arrived and began evacuating residences in the area.

Centerpoint Energy-Arkla eventually sealed the leak, and repair work is continuing.  Meanwhile, residents were allowed to return to their homes after about one hour.
