Clark Cancels Visit to Region 8 College

October 22, 2003 - Posted at 3:23 p.m.

BATESVILLE, AR - Presidential candidate Wesley Clark will be unable to attend the Founder's Day Convocation at Lyon College in Batesville Saturday.

A representative from Clark's scheduling office called Lyon President Walter Roettger Tuesday and said Clark's presence was required at presidential campaign activities in New Hampshire.

"While we are disappointed that General Clark cannot be here for Saturday's ceremony, we hope that he will be able to come to campus in the future," Roettger said.  "We had scheduled General Clark's appearance at LyonFest weekend well before he came a presidential candidate.  When he announced for the presidency, we knew that rescheduling was a possibility.  The college worked with his office to make this date work.  However, we understand he will need to be in New Hampshire for several events over several days, and the logistics make it impossible.  That's unfortunate, but we understand the demands upon his time."

Clark had been scheduled to receive an honorary degree and offer the keynote address at the convocation.
