Benefit this weekend to help a family cope with loss

RECTOR, AR (KAIT) - A benefit event is being held in downtown Rector to help raise money for a family who lost a loved one.

James Miers recently passed away and his family doesn't have the funds to pay for his burial. Friends and community members decided to have a benefit event on Saturday at the city park to help raise money for the burial.

"You can expect to see some gospel singing going on, refreshments, and stuff like that," says Lemuel Shavalia, who organized the event. She says people are pitching in to help with the fundraiser, "We're going to have people baking goods and selling them, all to help this family."

The benefit will begin at 1 p.m. at the city park in dowtown Rector and all of the proceeds will go to the Miers family.
