Body of woman recovered from SUV in water

NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A woman has died after an SUV ran into some water in New Madrid County.

Trooper Clark Parrott with the Missouri Highway Patrol says one body was recovered from inside a vehicle in some water off of Route P in New Madrid County.

The vehicle was heading east on Route P when it ran off road, hit a bridge, careened into a drainage ditch, and landed on its top in the water.

Investigators say two highway patrol troopers dove into the water and pulled 53 year-old Melissa Hunter out of the vehicle.  They tried to resuscitate Hunter, but were unsuccessful.

There was a child seat in the vehicle, but there has been no sign of a child.  Emergency crews searched the ditch for another person.  It is not believed that a passenger was in the vehicle, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

It happened near a levee area just east of the 52 mile marker.
