MO Water Patrol taking part in 'BUI' crackdown

KANSAS CITY, MO (AP) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says its Water Patrol division will take part in a nationwide crackdown on drunken boating dubbed Operation Dry Water.

The patrol says the enforcement effort during the upcoming weekend is intended to draw attention to the dangers of boating while under the influence.

The Kansas City Star reports Water Patrol officers will arrest boat operators who have a blood alcohol content of .08% and higher.

Officials say more than half of the fatal boating crashes last year had alcohol as a contributing factor.
