BOCA RATON, FL (SunSentinel.com) - FAU's first game at its new stadium will kickoff at 4 p.m.
"We want there to be plenty of daylight for people to see the new stadium and the campus," Athletic Director Craig Angelos said Thursday. "We are going to have a lot of people seeing us for the first time."
The inaugural game is scheduled for Oct. 15 against Western Kentucky. Construction on the 30,000-seat, $70 million stadium is on schedule, Angelos said.
While the Sun Belt television schedule has not been announced, it appears FAU's second home game, Oct. 22 against Middle Tennessee, will be broadcast on the conference's network and be the first game televised from the new stadium.
The time for that game could change, Angelos said, but he expects the other three home games to also start at 4 pm ET, 3pm CT. "We like that start time. There is time to tailgate and after the game people don't feel like they have to rush home," Angelos said.
With the stadium not opening until mid-October the Owls are playing their first five games on the road.
