LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe says he can't see himself supporting gay marriage or civil unions, despite his past reversal to support allowing same-sex couples to adopt children.
Beebe on Tuesday night repeated his opposition to gay marriage and civil unions as he spoke to a gay rights advocacy group.
The Democratic governor told the Stonewall Democratic Caucus that he can't see the state allowing either in the foreseeable future.
Beebe said that his views on gay rights has evolved and noted his shift on a ban on gay foster parents that he supported in 2006.
Beebe eventually reversed himself and opposed an initiated act struck down by the state Supreme Court that banned unmarried couples from becoming foster or adoptive parents.
