Missouri Company Cleared to Begin Work on New Power Plant at Osceola

October 29, 2003 - Posted at 8:00 a.m. CDT

OSCEOLA, AR - A Missouri company says it has obtained all the necessary state and federal permits to begin work on a $1 billion coal-fired power plant in northeast Arkansas.

Plum Point Energy is an affiliate of L-S Power Associates of St. Louis.  It expects to begin construction next year and complete the plant in 2008.

The planned plant, near Osceola in Mississippi County, has been approved for 800 megawatts of power.  But the company also has approval to build another 800-megawatt plant if it believes it is necessary.

L-S Power says the plant will employ about 100 people when completed.
