Demario Davis named to CFPA Linebacker of the Year Trophy watch list

JONESBORO (7/3/11) – Arkansas State senior linebacker Demario Davis (Brandon, Miss.), a 2010 First Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection, has been named a candidate for the College Football Performance Awards' (CFPA) Linebacker of the Year Trophy.

Davis is one of 40 preseason candidates on the watch list for the linebacker award, issued annually by CFPA.  According to CFPA, the award winners are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which an individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams.

Davis recorded 63 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, one sack, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery last season as a junior.  He was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 2, and he was also a CFPA Honorable Mention Linebacker of the Week.

Davis, a popular preseason All-Sun Belt Conference selection among the 2011 football publications, recorded at least six tackles in seven games during 2010.  He posted a career-high two interceptions in ASU's victory over Middle Tennessee, which also tied the most by an SBC player in a game last season.
