    JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – A memorial fund has been created for an 11-year-old girl who died after she became trapped beneath a pipe in a water-filled ditch for 20 minutes.

NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) - An early Tuesday morning shooting in the Hout Circle area of Newport sends one man to the hospital with multiple injuries.

According to the Newport Police Department, two unnamed assailants shot 38-year-old James Griffin at approximately 2:30 a.m. Police say Griffin, a black male, drove himself to the Harris Hospital Emergency Room less than a mile away for treatment.

Officers report that Griffin said he was driving through the Hout Circle area when two black men brandishing firearms approached him.

Police say the assailants shot Griffin in the forearm and face. Griffin was later taken to a hospital in Little Rock for further treatment. His condition is currently unknown.

The shooting suspects are not currently in custody, and the investigation continues say police.

Details about why shots were fired are still unknown.
