Lt. Governor To Receive Baltic Achievement Award

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Lieutenant Governor Win Rockefeller, who is half Lithuanian, will accept the U.S. Baltic Foundation's Baltic American Public Service Achievement Award at its Silent Auction and Gala Awards Dinner in Washington, DC on Saturday, November 1.

The foundation lobbies and advocates on belhalf of the Baltic nations of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, which were formerly part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Rockefeller's mother, Barbara Sears, was the daughter of Lithuanian immigrants.  Rockefeller spent most of his first five years living with her and his maternal grandparents on an Indiana farm, where he learned to speak Lithuanian before he spoke English.  He was visiting is grandmother when, after 40 years in America, she finally received her American citizenship.

"I'm very proud of my Lithuanian heritage, Rockefeller said.  "America is a nation of immigrants.  As the grandson of immigrants, I have a deep and abiding appreciation for what it means to be an American."
