EVENING SHADE, AR (KAIT) – The Sharp County Sheriff's Office needs your help finding a man who they say fought with a deputy.

On Friday, July 1, Deputy Gary Mitchell was dispatched to an Evening Shade home.  When he arrived, he saw two men getting into a pickup truck.  One of the men said he had to go into the house to get his identification.  While he was gone, the deputy secured Robert Pollard of Poughkeepsie.  When the man did not return, Deputy Mitchell went looking for him.  He spotted the man running through a nearby woods.

Deputy Mitchell chased the subject and caught him.  According to the sheriff's report, the man violently resisted arrest.  The deputy used his taser gun on the man several times.  The sheriff says the man then tried to take the taser away from Deputy Mitchell and hit the officer several times in the head.

The man, who has been identified as John W. Smith, managed to escape.  Smith has an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Augusta.  As of this writing, he is still at large.

If you have any information that can help the Sharp County Sheriff's Office find Smith, call (870) 994-7329.
