KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - Murder charges have been filed against a pair of Kennett residents in connection to the killing of 25-year-old Roosevelt Jackson.
Dunklin County Prosecutor Stephen Sokoloff says Standrique Matlock, 22, and Kareema Jefferson, 23, each face charges of first degree murder and armed criminal action. Both suspects could face the death penalty or life in prison without parole.
Police recovered a 9 mm handgun that belonged to Matlock, which is believed to be the murder weapon.
Kennett Police say Jackson was sitting in a car on the 1100 block of Astrachan St. Monday night, when he was shot several times in the back through the rear driver's side window.
Six shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Jackson's family says he was originally from Blytheville, AR, but was living in Kennett with his girlfriend and her grandmother. Jackson is survived by three children.
Both Matlock and Jefferson are being held without bond and are due back in court on August 19.
