WHITE HALL, AR --Officials at the Pine Bluff Arsenal say trial burns of surrogate chemicals are scheduled to start today at the arsenal's chemical-weapons destruction incinerator.
The incinerator was built to destroy the arsenal's share of the nation's chemical-weapons stockpile, as called for by an international treaty.
But it won't be chemical weapons going into the incinerator today. Instead, the incinerator staff will be testing the incinerator by burning surrogate chemicals that are even more difficult to destroy than the chemical weapons.
The test burns are scheduled to continue through Friday.
