Texting and driving campaign set to begin on Arkansas highways

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) - Motorists across the state will soon be noticing a new special message on digital signs near roadways.

The signs will read "Stay Alive, Don't Text and Drive" and the hope is to influence drivers to change their habits on the highway and become more aware when driving.

The campaign was facilitated by Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe, who is the honorary chair of the Natural Wonders Council, and was done with the help of the Arkansas State Police.

According to the council, distracted driving results in thousands of preventable fatalities every year and the new signs are an effort to reduce that number.

The messages will run from July 17 through July 23 and will run again from August 7 to August 13.
