Police: Fingerprints found at elementary school vandalism

NEWARK, AR (KAIT) - Police are searching for clues to help solve the vandalism of the Cedar Ridge Elementary School in Newark.

Two kindergarten rooms and the music room were hit the hardest in the vandalism.

The rooms had been cleaned and were ready for the return of students in August, but according to officials, sometime on Monday vandals threw supplies everywhere, stuffed toilets with books and scattered musical instruments.

Lt. Jimmy Smith of the Independence County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation.

"We found the people that actually found the door open, we're trying to get hold of them to talk with us some more to try and find out what it was like when they got there," Smith said. "We do have some fingerprints we can send off to the state crime lab for possible identification."

There was damage done to other rooms in the school but it appears that nothing was stole and no electronics were destroyed.
