Prosecutors file amended witness list, plan to call out-of-state experts in Sowell death penalty phase

The battle over whether convicted serial killer Anthony Sowell should live or die just got turned up a notch.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutors filed an amended witness list, saying they plan to call two out-of-state mental health experts. One witness, Dr. James Knoll, is a professor from Syracuse who has written books about serial killers and sex offenders. 

Defense attorneys long ago lined up their own mental health expert to say Sowell suffers from a variety of mental health issues. The defense is also likely to call witnesses to speak about Sowell's military record as a Marine and his school records as a young student.

Sowell was convicted of murdering eleven women and burying their bodies in and around his Imperial Avenue home. 

He is eligible for the death penalty.
