JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The United States Postal Service today released a list of post offices it will look at to see if they should close.
The agency said it will look at almost 3,700 offices, branches, and stations nationwide, including almost 200 in the state of Arkansas.
Most of the offices under review are in rural areas and have a low volume of business. Some of those offices that will be closed could be moved to libraries, local stores, or government offices.
The agency announced earlier this year it lost around $8 billion last year. The Postal Service has cut its staff by as many as 130,000 over the past 4 years and reduced its cost by as much as $12 billion.
