LITTLE ROCK, AR (AP) - The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope has been given approval to buy land in Texarkana for a satellite campus.
The University of Arkansas board of trustees voted Wednesday to allow the college to buy almost 8.7 acres near Interstate 30 for about $80,000 and an adjacent 15½ acres for about $31,000.
College officials say establishing the campus will allow them to reach students who don't want to make the 40 minute drive from Texarkana to Hope. The two colleges currently in Texarkana - Texarkana College and Texas A&M University at Texarkana - are both on the Texas side of the city.
Community college Chancellor Chris Thomason said he hopes the satellite campus will be open by the fall of 2012.
