TEXARKANA, AR (AP) - People walking by a tremendous magnolia tree in Texarkana will now know they are looking at something special.
The Arkansas Forestry Commission on Wednesday placed a granite marker near the tree to note it is a state champion, which means it is the largest of its kind in the state.
The Texarkana Gazette reports the tree stands near an apartment complex and is within sight of Interstate 30.
Forestry Commission ranger Doug Cherry says other large magnolias in Jonesboro and Washington are about as large. But careful measurements show the Texarkana magnolia is the biggest.
