JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)-Some Region 8 students traveled to the west coast and brought home a gold medal!
Three students from Harrisburg High School worked in a new Entrepreneur class during the school semester.
Teacher Kim Paslay encouraged her students to create a business and enter it into the FCCLA Star Events competition.
After winning at local and state levels, they moved on to nationals in California and won!
Kayla Gresham will be a senior next year and is one of the participating students.
Kayla says they learned a lot, "We had to make our own business plan, and do all the codes involved like fire escapes and stuff like that."
Paslay says this is the first year for them to enter such a competition and she thinks it was an invaluable experience.
"We had three different girls with very different personalities working together to accomplish this goal. They learned what all goes into a business and each focused on their strengths and individuality, adding that to the business project."
Taylor Bornhoft just graduated from Harrisburg High School and is another of the students who participated in this competition.
Taylor says she found the entire process a great learning experience, "This really helped me get to know business and how to target customers and make a business plan and carry it out."
Taylor says she intends to study fashion retail and get a minor in business at the University of Alabama this fall.
Paslay says she intends to enter her students this year into the competition again.
