From Harding University
The Harding men's soccer team was picked to finish fifth of six teams in the Gulf South Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. As the only two schools in the Great American Conference that field men's soccer teams, Harding and Ouachita Baptist will continue to participate in the GSC in men's soccer only.
Harding junior midfielder Josh Ireland and senior forward Connor Galloway were both named to the 2011 Preseason All-GSC Team.
West Florida, which has won the last five GSC men's soccer championships, was the unanimous favorite. Christian Brothers was second, followed by Alabama-Huntsville, and Ouachita Baptist. Delta State was chosen sixth.
Harding had four players named as the conference's top newcomers—midfielder Isai Garcia, defender Gehrig Haberstock, forward Ian Park, and midfielder Jacob Stevens.
Harding, under the direction of new head coach Jeremy Bishop, opens the 2011 season on Sept. 1 in Searcy against Lynn University.
