Utility Threatens to Cut Off Water Supply to State Capitol

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Central Arkansas Water is threatening to shut off service to the state Capitol unless required inspections take place.

The threat has embarassed Secretary of State Charlie Daniels, who is pledging to comply with the utility's requests and keep the water flowing.

Central Arkansas Water says it has no record that the state has conducted inspections to certify three back-flow prevention devices - items that would prevent drinking water from being contaminated if there was a loss of pressure.

The utility has given Daniels, as custodian of the Capitol building and grounds, until November 18 to document the inspections.
