Paroled Region 8 Rapist Found Guilty in Missouri Murder Trial

LIBERTY, MO - Paroled Arkansas rapist Wayne DuMond was convicted this afternoon of first-degree murder in the death of a Kansas City area woman.

The jury in Liberty, Missouri, deliberated three hours.

DuMond was tried for the September, 2000 death of Carol Shields.  The 39-year-old Parkville resident had been bound, suffocated and left nude on a bed.

The judge gave defense attorneys until early next month to file post-trial motions.  He scheduled arguments for January ninth.

Sentencing also could be on January ninth.  The 54-year-old DuMond can be given only life in prison without parole.

DuMond was paroled after serving 13 years of a sentence for the 1984 rape of a teenager in Forrest City, Arkansas.  He was awaiting trial when someone castrated him in 1995 in his St. Francis County home.
