SeMo Congresswoman Back from Iraq

November 12, 2003 - Posted at 8:47 p.m. CDT

WASHINGTON, DC - Back home from her fact-finding Mideast trip, southeast Missouri Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson says it's urgent for the United States to put Iraqis in charge of their nation's security.

Emerson spent six days with nine other members of Congress in Iraq, Syria and Jordan.

The group met with Paul Bremmer, the chief civilian administrator for Iraq.

Bremmer was called to a White House meeting yesterday.  But Emerson says her group had no inkling of the development.

Despite recent bombings, Emerson says she wasn't worried about her safety on the trip.  She says she was nervous during some tricky airplane landings.
