MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis coach Larry Porter says sophomore
Andy Summerlin came out of this weekend's scrimmage with a slight
edge in the team's quarterback competition.
Freshman Taylor Reed and Wake Forest transfer Skylar Jones also
are vying for the starting job. Jones, a senior, is the only QB in
camp with Bowl Subdivision experience, according to The Commercial
Summerlin ended spring practice atop the depth chart and entered
fall camp as the No. 1 quarterback.
Porter says that overall the quarterback play was about average
during the scrimmage. He says he's looking for more consistency,
but says as a group the quarterbacks are making strides in the
