Ark. alcohol control board grants liquor permits

Posted:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The state's Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has granted liquor permits to applicants in two Arkansas counties that recently voted to allow alcohol sales.

Director Michael Langley says Wednesday that the board approved nine new permits for people who want to open liquor stores in northern Arkansas' Boone County. The board also approved five permits in southeast Arkansas' Clark County.

Both counties were dry until November, when residents voted to allow the sale of alcohol. Statewide, 40 out of Arkansas' 75 counties are dry.

The number of liquor permits allowed for each wet county is based on population.

Langley says the board encourages people who were granted liquor permits to wait 30 days before they start selling alcohol in case anyone files an appeal.
