WASHINGTON, DC - Congress is working toward compromise on the giant, end-of-session spending bill. But the conference committee is meeting without southeast Missouri Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson.
Emerson is the only member of the House farm spending panel not serving on the House-Senate conference committee.
She's repeatedly opposed her Republican Party's leadership on issues such as prescription drugs and trade with Cuba. Both will be part of the compromise spending bill.
However, Emerson says the decision to stay out of negotiations was hers, not the leadership's.
Emerson says she took herself off the conference committee. She says, when voting on issues such as prescription drugs, it would be hypocritical to go against her own position.
