Region 8 mother faces abuse charges; child in hospital

HAYTI, MO (KAIT) - A Region 8 mother is facing abuse charges while her one-year-old is in critical condition at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis.

According to Hayti Police, 21-year-old Shakia McIntyre of Hayti is being charged with endangering the welfare of a child and felony child abuse.

The one-year-old was taken to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital and treated for a collapsed lunch, burns and possible fractured bones and a possible concussion. Officers were called to the hospital in response to the child's potentially fatal injuries. Juvenile authorities as well as staff with the Missouri Children's Division also showed up to assess the situation. The child was air lifted to Memphis for further treatment of it's injuries, where it was then listed in critical condition.

McIntyre is being held on a $100,000 bond.

An investigation regarding the case is presently taking place and McIntyre is expected to appear in court on the felony charges. However, no date has been set at this time.
