Arkansas-Little Rock signs player from Columbia

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - University of Arkansas at Little Rock officials say the addition of a post player has rounded out the men's basketball roster for the 2011-2012 season.

Officials said that Michael Javes of Columbia signed an athletics grant-in aid agreement during the summer and enrolled in class on Wednesday after being approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

Coach Steve Shields said Javes - at 6 feet 10 inches - adds some much-needed length and athleticism to the team.

Javes played one year at Arlington Country Day high school in Jacksonville, Fla., where he averaged 14 points, 14.1 rebounds and 4.2 blocks per game to help lead the Apaches to a 23-2 record.
