Arkansas State releases 2011-12 men's basketball schedule

JONESBORO, Ark. (ASU) – The Arkansas State men's basketball team released its 2011-12 schedule Thursday featuring 17 home games as the Red Wolves will look to defend its 13-game home winning streak against the likes of Missouri State, Southeast Missouri, Kent State, Seattle and Central Arkansas.

"We are excited about the upcoming basketball season and especially the schedule we have in place and the challenges it brings to our team," said ASU head coach John Brady. "I feel our non-conference home schedule is a good one with Tennessee-Martin, Missouri State, Southeast Missouri, Central Arkansas, Seattle and Kent State providing our fans with some intriguing and interesting matchups."

"With these home games spread out through November and December and the way our team played at home last year in going undefeated for the first time in 20 years, we are hopeful our fans will support us in a big way throughout our nonconference and conference schedules. I like our team that will represent our university this year. It has some experience, it has an excellent recruiting class to go along with that experience and we should all expect our team to play well and be a good team provided we stay healthy and nothing takes place beyond our control to set us back. Hopefully, everyone will continue to do their part to help us make our basketball program the best in the Sun Belt Conference."

ASU opens exhibition action hosting Central Baptist Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. and Henderson State at 7:05 p.m. Nov. 3. The Red Wolves open the season with a trip to Beaumont, Texas, to face Lamar under first-year head coach Pat Knight on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.

December opens with two road games at St. Bonaventure Dec. 1 and at Austin Peay Dec. 5. ASU revives a rivalry with Central Arkansas, playing the Bears for the first time since 1953 Dec. 10 and then hosts Seattle in the first game of a home-and-home series this season Dec. 14.

The Red Wolves then go on the road for a contest at Murray State Dec. 17 and hosts Lyon College Dec. 19 before going to Saint Louis Dec. 22 and hosting Kent State Dec. 29.

The Red Wolves travel to Louisiana-Monroe to open Sun Belt Conference play against the Warhawks Dec. 31 before opening its home conference schedule with a four-game home stand against Denver (Jan. 5), North Texas (Jan. 7), Florida Atlantic (Jan. 9) and UALR (Jan. 14).

ASU returns to the road to face Middle Tennessee Jan. 19 before returning to the Convocation Center to face Louisiana-Lafayette on Jan. 21. Their annual trip to Denver and North Texas is next on the docket, set for Jan. 26 and 28 respectively.

Next up will be the first of only three home games for the Red Wolves in the month of February, beginning with Louisiana-Lafayette at the Convocation Center Feb. 2. ASU goes on its longest road trip of the season, traveling to Seattle Feb. 4, South Alabama Feb. 9 and Louisiana-Lafayette Feb. 11.

The team's final two home games follow on Feb. 16 and 18 hosting Troy and FIU, respectively, before traveling to Western Kentucky and UALR to wrap up the regular season on Feb. 23 & 25.
