CORNING, AR (KAIT) - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a public meeting to discuss the upcoming waterfowl season, Dave Donaldson Black River Wildlife Management Area seasonal flooding, and recent changes in the practice of public maintenance.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on September 6 at the M.B. Ainley Community Center in Corning.
In the past, sportsmen have been allowed to perform maintenance on public duck blinds and existing waterfowl holes on three WMA's, including Dave Donaldson Black River WMA. But, because of past violations, that will no longer be allowed by AGFC.
Violations have included the illegal use of herbicides and excessive clearing of existing waterfowl openings.
Another concern to be discussed is the possible degradation of habitat by ATV's after flooding this spring and summer. The commission says they will have enforcement officers monitoring all state-owned waterfowl areas to ensure compliance.
