MAYFIELD, Ky. (MCC) - The Mid-Continent Cougars (0-3) volleyball team played their first two true home matches of the season on Saturday, dropping a pair of decisions to Williams Baptist College (2-0). Katie Perry totalled 29 kills betweek the two matches, while Lindsey Davis 64 assists, and Tara Bauch notched 24 digs.
The Cougars dropped the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-19, but the Cougars fought hard to stay in the match. Momentum seemed to shift at the end of the third set, however, fighting off three match points before claiming the 28-26 set victory. Mid-Continent seemed to carry that momentum into the fourth set, building a quick 704 lead, but the Eagles came back, taking the lead by winning five of the next six points en route to the win 25-20.
After a 30 minute break, the teams got back out on the floor, and again the Cougars seemed to start strong, as Mid-Continent raced out to a 4-0 lead in the first set. The lead would be short-lived. Service errors plagued the Cougars throughout the match, but were especially big in the opening set as Williams Baptist came from behind to take the set 25-20. The Eagles built on that momentum, and it proved to be too much for the Cougars, as Williams Baptist completed the sweep, taking the final two sets by scored of 25-16 and 25-19.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Conway on Friday, September 2nd for the Hendrix Classic. WBC plays Hendrix College at 5pm, then face Texas-Tyler at 7pm. Next Saturday, the Lady Eagles play Central Baptist at 10am & LeTourneau at 12pm.
