JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro and Greene County Tech entered the Simmons First Border Bowl with two high powered offenses.
But JHS scored 36 unanswered on the way to a 45-6 victory Tuesday night.
Martin Stafford opened up the scoring in the 1st quarter with a 9 yard TD run. Later, Moe Malugen found Luke Ferguson for a 13 yard TD to make it 14-0 JHS after the first frame.
In the 2nd, Malugen scrambled for a 8 yard score to give Jonesboro a 21-0 lead. Ferguson beat the buzzer with a 42 yard field goal. JHS led 24-0 at halftime. Malugen had another QB keeper and Zac Brooks tacked on a rushing TD to make it 38-0 after three.
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the 4th. Cody Davis hit Travis Ryan for a screen pass to cut it to 38-6. But the Hurricane tacked on another touchdown on the next play from scrimmage.
JHS moves to 1-0. They'll travel to central Arkansas on Friday, September 9th to play Conway.
GCT falls to 0-1. They'll host Hoxie in the second week of the regular season.
