Fire in Jonesboro damages downtown law office

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro Fire Department responded to the scene of a fire Monday evening in downtown Jonesboro.

According to JFD, the fire happened at the Glenn Lovett Law Office on 512 West Jefferson. Firefighters say they arrived at the scene after they received a call from two men who saw the fire as they were leaving a Sav-A-Lot.

Firefighters told Region 8 News that most of the damage done to the building happened on the 2nd floor.

"When we got here there was heavy black smoke showing out through the attic and all out through the eaves," Fire Chief Tim Rowell said. "Two engine companies made entry, went to the second floor, could not find the fire and when the fire broke through the roof we had to make a defensive attack," he said.

At this time, officials aren't sure what caused the fire, but we do know that no one was in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

We will continue to track this story and bring you the latest updates as they become available.
