Congressional Delegation Announces Region 8 Disaster Areas

November 25, 2003 - Posted at 2:50 p.m. CDT

WASHINGTON, DC - First District Congressman Marion Berry, along with U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln, announced today that seven Region 8 counties have been designated natural disaster areas.

Excessive rain and flooding that occured between September 1 and September 8, 2003 warranted the U.S. Department of Agriculture to designate Lawrence County and its six contiguous counties...Craighead, Greene, Independence, Jackson, Randolph and Sharp, as natural disaster areas.

The designation makes farm operators in the seven counties elibible to be considered for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency (FSA).  Affected farmers should contact their local FSA offices to receive further information; FSA will consider each loan application on its own merits, taking into account the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.
