Harding Men's Soccer battles to a tie

From Harding University

The Harding men's soccer team battled to its first tie since 2008, drawing 1-1 with Maryville on Tuesday at the Harding Soccer Field.

After a scoreless first half, Harding (1-1-1) scored the game's first goal in the 55th minute. A miscommunication between Maryville defender Wyatt Essenpreis and goalkeeper Michael Flatley left Harding sophomore forward Cameron Rose all alone for an easy tap in. It was Rose's second career goal.

Maryville (1-1-1) answered in the 61st minute, as Kory Dowell scored from the right edge of the 18-yard box on a feed from Matt O'Daniel.

Harding played with a one-man advantage throughout the last 18 minutes of overtime as Kevin Aubuchon received a red card. The Bisons outshot the Saints 8-3 in the two overtime periods and 26-18 for the game.

Harding's last tie came against Texas-Tyler in 2008. The Bisons had played five more overtime games since then without a tie until Tuesday's game.

There were a total of eight cards issued in the game. Harding received five yellow cards, and Maryville collected two yellows and the red card.

The Bisons will conclude their four-game homestand to open the season Friday against Ouachita Baptist. Kickoff at the Harding Soccer Field is at 7:30 p.m.
