Arkansas Tech freshman Olivia Campbell named GAC Women's Cross County Runner of the Week

From Arkansas Tech University

The Great American Conference announced on Tuesday that Arkansas Tech freshman Olivia Campbell (Harrison, Ark.) has been named this year's inaugural GAC Women's Cross County Runner of the Week.

Campbell earns the league's first-ever Women's Runner of the Week accolade following her impressive performance in her collegiate debut this past Saturday at the Brooks/Memphis Twilight Meet hosted by Christian Brothers University.

At the Memphis Twilight, Campbell was the top Division II finisher in the women's 5,000-meter race as she placed fourth overall out of 206 runners at the meet. Her 5K time of 18:14 was the fifth fastest time in school history.

With the honor, Campbell, who is a transfer from North Arkansas Community College, earns the distinction of being the first female athlete to ever be named Runner of the Week in the newly-formed GAC.

Campbell and the Golden Suns will return home this coming Friday, Sept. 9 to host the 5th-Annual Tech Twilight Classic. The women's 2-mile race is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Tucker Coliseum.
