Clay Co. Deputy Sheriff appears in court on felony charges

CLAY COUNTY, AR (KAIT) – A Clay County Sheriff's Deputy charged with four felonies appeared in court Monday afternoon.

According to the Clay County Prosecutor's Office, Heath McClung made his first court appearance Monday and his case continued to January 6, 2012.

McClung was arrested after an alleged domestic dispute at a home in Rector on Sunday September 4. According to the Arkansas State Police report, McClung was taken into custody regarding a domestic disturbance.

After an ASP investigation, McClung was charged with third degree battery, first degree stalking, first degree terroristic threatening, aggravated assault, and breaking or entering. All charges are considered felonies, except the third degree battery charge.

Because the incident involved a law enforcement officer, the Rector Police Department notified the Arkansas State Police to take over the investigation.

McClung is currently out of jail after providing a $50,000 bond. He's set to appear back in court on January 6, 2012.
